Add Recording Cues to a Video Script

Add bracketed cues to a FoxCue script to open a link, show a slide, start screen share or spotlight while you record. Cues are never read aloud.

Recording cues are short instructions in square brackets inside your script, like [slide: 4] or [screen]. They aren't spoken. When you reach a cue while recording, the teleprompter's cue dock lights it up as a one-tap action or a reminder.

Cue types

[pause] and [beat] are timing markers, not cues. They mark where to pause.

Add cues

Open the cue manager

In the script editor, click Manage recording cues (or open Cue help to see the syntax).

Add a cue

Click + Cue, choose Open link, Show slide, Share screen, Spotlight, Title or Reminder, and fill in the value. Pick a slide from Pick a slide… (you need a slide deck first), type the link, or type the reminder text.

Test it

Use Preview slide or Test — open the link to check it works.

Save the script

Changes apply to your script, so remember to save it.

You can also type cues straight into the script text.

How cues appear while recording

In the teleprompter, a NOW / NEXT dock shows the current and upcoming cue. The current cue's button pulses. Tap it to run the action, and tap ✓ to mark it done. Before you reach any cue, the dock says Cues light up here as you read to them.

Frequently asked questions

Will the teleprompter read cues to me?

Cues stay out of the spoken text. The teleprompter shows them in the cue dock, not as words to say.

Do cues work with the slide recorder?

Cues are built for the studio recorder's teleprompter. The slide recorder reads from slide notes. See Slide recorder.
