Record Camera, Screen and Slides in Browser

Use the FoxCue studio recorder to record your webcam, screen share or slides in the browser, switch layouts mid-take, read a teleprompter and save the take.

The FoxCue studio recorder records your camera, your screen and your slides in the browser, with a teleprompter that only you can see. Open a script and click Record This Script, or choose Record Without a Script on Getting Started.

The recorder shows Studio recorder and your title with the frame size (16:9) at the top. While recording, a REC badge with a timer (m:ss) appears, and it changes to Paused when you pause.

Record a take

Pick a layout

Choose a layout on the scene bar (see the table below). For a screen layout, FoxCue asks which screen or window to share.

Open the teleprompter (optional)

For a script recording with text, the teleprompter opens automatically. Toggle it with Teleprompter on the scene bar. See Teleprompter settings and voice tracking.

Start Recording

Click Start Recording. Recording starts immediately, with no countdown.

Pause, resume, switch layouts

Use Pause / Resume. Changing layout during a take starts a new scene from that moment. Draw on screen with the marker tools.

Stop & Save

Click Stop & Save. When the upload finishes, you'll see Recording saved with Continue Editing. For a script recording, you can then finalize the video.

Layouts

LayoutDescription
Full camWebcam fills the frame: intro, outro, talking head
SplitContent on the left, camera on the right
ContentContent full-bleed with the camera in a corner
ScreenLive screen full-bleed with the camera in a corner
SlideA deck slide as the background with a camera corner

If you pick a layout that needs content and none is loaded, FoxCue opens the slide picker (Slide, Content) or a screen share (Split, Screen).

In corner layouts, drag the camera bubble anywhere and resize it from its edge. It keeps a 16:9 shape and is at least 160 px wide. Click Reset Cam Position to put it back.

Content sources

In the settings panel, under Sources:

  • Share screen / window: shares at 30 fps. System audio isn't captured. Stop Screen ends sharing.
  • Add image: use an image as content.
  • Use a Slide / Hide Slides: show slides from the script's deck (script recordings only).
  • Remove content: clears the content region.

If a layout's content area is empty, you'll see Share a screen or add an image to fill this layout's content region.

More settings (camera, background blur, film looks, audio, scene frame, watermark) are in Recorder settings.

What gets recorded

  • The composed frame (camera, content, markers, frame and watermark) at 30 fps, 8 Mbps, as WebM (VP9/Opus where supported).
  • Your camera at up to 1280 × 720.
  • The teleprompter and cue dock are not recorded.

If saving fails

Your take stays in the browser tab: Your take is kept in this tab. Choose Retry Save, Download WebM or Discard Take. FoxCue warns you before you leave the page with an unsaved take, and closing the recorder asks Discard this unsaved take?

Keyboard

Esc closes the teleprompter first, then the recorder. The studio recorder has no other keyboard shortcuts. The slide recorder has a full set.

Troubleshooting

  • Start Recording is greyed out. The camera isn't ready. Allow camera access in your browser's site settings and reload.
  • No sound from my shared tab. Screen share doesn't capture system audio. Narrate over it with your microphone.
  • Picking a camera or microphone. The studio recorder uses your browser's default devices and has no device picker. Change the default in your browser's site settings, or use the slide recorder, which has a camera picker.
  • The upload failed. Click Retry Save. If it keeps failing, Download WebM and upload it later from Video Projects.
