Writing Skills: Custom Script Templates
Choose a FoxCue writing skill such as Product walkthroughs, or upload your own SKILL.md method with brand variables to control script voice and structure.
A writing skill is a reusable method that tells FoxCue how to write a script: its voice, structure and rules. Pick one under Writing Skill in a script's Brief. Your brand, sources and brief still supply the facts. The skill only supplies the method.
Built-in skills
| Skill | Best for |
|---|---|
| Product walkthroughs | Demo-first narration with a working result, setup, a realistic test and a fitting CTA |
| Comparisons & buying guides | Operator voice, comparisons, buying guides and evidence-backed verdicts |
| Informational Shorts | A standalone reaction hook, one idea, an escalating explanation and a comment question |
Standard writing method is the default.
Choose a skill for a script
- Open the script's Brief (or a planned video's Create Script panel).
- Under Writing Skill, choose a built-in skill, one of yours, or Standard Writing Method.
- Generate the script.
Click Manage Skills to open Library → Skills.
Upload your own skill
Write a SKILL.md
A minimal skill:
---
name: practical-demo
description: A practical walkthrough with a clear result.
---
Write for {{brand.name}}, using {{brand.voice}} for {{brand.audience}}.
Open with the buyer's problem. Show the finished result first, explain the steps,
and end with a relevant next action. Write spoken narration without stage directions.Upload it to the Library
Go to Create → Library, click Upload, and choose the SKILL.md, or a .zip containing SKILL.md plus Markdown reference files.
Pick it in a Brief
It appears under Yours in the Writing Skill picker.
Package limits
- Up to 12 Markdown reference files inside the package, up to 60,000 characters in total.
- Referenced files must be in the package. FoxCue doesn't read local paths, browse the web or run scripts from a skill.
- A missing reference file shows an error before any AI call.
Brand variables
Use these in a skill. They're filled in from the brand selected in Product Context:
{{brand.name}}, {{brand.description}}, {{brand.voice}}, {{brand.audience}}, {{brand.positioning}}
A skill with brand variables needs a brand selected. Unknown variable names fail with an error. Missing optional preferences are labeled unspecified, not guessed.
Revisions
- Each edit to your own skill creates a new numbered revision. Scripts keep the revision they used until you choose the current one.
- To customize a built-in skill, open it in the Library editor and fork it into an editable copy.
- If a built-in skill has changed, FoxCue asks you to select its current revision before regenerating.
Frequently asked questions
Can a skill add facts about my product?
No. Examples in a skill don't establish product capabilities or pricing. Facts come from your brand, sources and brief.
Is there a YouTube answer video script template?
Use the Product walkthroughs skill for how-to answers, or upload your own SKILL.md with your preferred structure (question → short answer → steps → CTA).
